Brian Hernandez was born and raised in San Diego California. Brian has had an extensive background working for multiple aquatics departments all over San Diego. Brian has managed pools ranging as for south as San Ysidro up to Camp Pendleton. This wide experience with so many different communities and demographics has helped Brian develop into one of the most well-rounded aquatics minds in San Diego.
Brian attended and played football for the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights while studying finance after graduating from Mesa and Grossmont College with an associate degree in Fire Science and Administration of Justice. Brian has an extensive background playing football and other sports. Brian’s professional experience begin in 2013 as a lifeguard and swim instructor for the City of San Diego. Brian quickly began to take on as many responsibilities as possible by assuming the role of coach for the recreational swim team and water polo team, as well as teaching water fitness classes at the Martin Luther King Jr. Pool. Brian’s versatility paid off quickly as he was promoted to a Pool Manager in 2015. Managing the Kearney Mesa Pool, and later the South Clairemont Community Pool. Brian’s most recent professional accomplishment is his San Diego Section Championship Division II Title for his girl’s swim team. Brian’s team came out of a pandemic to win San Diego’s first CIF sanctioned championship competition in the last 14 months. Brian’s team had one of the most unorthodox practice schedules for any high school team sport. They were required to practice 4 times a week from 9:00pm-11:00pm. All the hard work and sacrifice that his team gave paid off at the end of the day by crowning themselves as the top team in San Diego with the margin of victory of 2 points.
Brian’s wide range of experience has given him a unique outlook on how to operate and develop an aquatics department by taking bits and pieces from his former employers and creating a revolutionary world class facility focusing on delivering cutting edge aquatic programs set to continually inspire and improve San Diego.
